Lis Roop earned her Digital Photography Certificate (with Fine Art, Digital Imaging and Portrait/Wedding Specialties) from the CSU Rankin Arts Photography Center in 2016, the first student to have three specialties listed. Now living in Orlando, Florida, Lis is an active member of the Orlando Camera Club. The following is a letter recently shared on the Photopia Image Makers Facebook page:
“Huge shout out to the excellent instructors and judges of RAPC/Photopia. There was a big, embarrassing kerfuffle at last night’s OCC (Orlando Camera Club) competition between a member and the three professional judges. The photographer stood up, defended his work, pointed out that the judges were being inconsistent in their critiques, and gave examples. The judges all reacted defensively, and there was much shouting over microphones. Made me appreciate the positive and supportive attitude found at Photopia. So many times I heard, ‘what were you trying to show here?’ followed by, ‘here’s how to show that in a better way,’ along with the admission that judges are human and try their best to be objective, but subjectivity can creep in. Thank you to RAPC/Photopia for keeping it real and truly supporting the photographers!”
